What’s my all time favorite movie?

The more we get a chance to talk to Ben, the more he surprises us. This chat was no different.

“My favorite movie hasn’t changed in the last 35 years. It’s Stir Crazy directed by Sidney Poitier starring Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. Richard Pryor is my all time favorite comedian. For a while, I really loved Gene Wilder too. But, there’s no one like Richard. Without Richard there would be no Eddie Murphy or Chris Rock or Martin Lawrence.

The movie was made in 1980 and I was seven when it came out. I remember that we had a Betamax video player at the house and I had two choices, Mommy Dearest and Stir Crazy. My parents were really strict so Mommy Dearest was a little too real for them so that got taken away. I must have watched Stir Crazy like 100 times in that year alone. There was a lot of cussing, and it was so damn funny. It was like the Count of Monte Cristo but with so much slapstick. To this day, at least once or twice a year, I will pop that movie in just to get a good laugh. Not a lot of people know that I got my degree in film so one of my favorite hobbies is to watch movies but I’m very critical of them. I don’t care how big of a film buff you are, if you are over the age of 35, you know this movie. “
